View Full Version : What happened to the thongsdaily forums
I haven't seen them for a couple days. I haven't changed anything, still using the same firefox. I know that most links didn't get any forum entries, but I enjoyed them when they did.

pogo - I removed them because of the huge amount of spam bots that have been attacking our sites on those pages. It was causing the rest of the site to slow down while working on serving those requests. I'd rather have the rest of the site respond faster than allow a few people to make 1 or 2 comments on the submitted links.
I never really felt that it was a popular feature, and we think that the site speed is a more important feature.
Matt,
I never saw any spam in those, just the occasional snarky comment from yours truly, raisedcuppycoffe and the like. Oh well, obviously you know the server situation better than I do. Thanks for the response.

The spam bots were not successfully making posts, but we would have about 10 to 20 thousand requests to the forums.html page per day, most of the time it was attempting to access non-valid links. And since i've taken them down, the load on the server is much happier.

Oh... Now I know why it was a pain in the ass to connect to that site.
Thanks Matt.

Actually sinner, I make it so that you can only connect to the site 1 out of 10 times that you try to connect. :wacky:
